The Board Part II

What was supposed to be a clean=up session in the office today became a deck touch-up session. Reapplied the paint and it looks much cleaner now. Not really the best but I'm kind of happy with it. Am considering a clear coating as tipped by the ironxhanger. Dewi was kind enough to entertain me and took a shot of the board with yours truly.

Skateboard Attempt Number 1

The stencils were divided into 2 A3 pieces. The letters 'tles' were cut first.

This was the first attempt. I'm sure after the first coat it was good enough, but I went for 2 more coats in hopes of it giving a better shine but it just came out to fuzzy.

After light sanding. I liked what went on here, but it would make more sense if it was in a series.

Applying the paint again to see how it looks on the sanded background.

This is probably the 4th time after plying around on the previous attempts.

The 'final' product. It looks pretty okay on camera but i assure you it doesn't when you see it in person haha. It does require a lot of touch ups and even a complete re-sanding and reapplying of paint.

There was this need to get off my ass and do something productive. I had a skateboard idea in mind, in line with the merchandise we are planning to release so i figured with the extra cash i have, i ought to realise the skate plan. Above are the processes made before reaching the 'final' product. That is after sanding and re-spraying a couple of times. And I might be at it again because the end product doesn't look that good. Hope to keep y'all updated.

This is really good news, and that chap has been working hard with his art and stuff, so on the behalf of the band, I'd like to congratulate him and hope that the exposure will get him more gigs (not that he hasn't enough already hahaha). Congrats bro.

A friend of ours has made his presence felt online via ironxhanger (Click to visit), dedicated to skateboarding art, culture, etc. It's refreshing to have such efforts around in times of over-priced t-shirts, Nike skate shies and fashionable 'street' jacks whom finally realise that it is actually cool to wear Vans.

I think some ironxhanger t-shirt projects are in progress, so do drop by his site and show some love.

Turn It Up... A Little Louder.

In a world of blingz and flashy girls and Kanye Wests and Pharells and what have you, stands out a brilliant record label, Stones Throw. I got firmly acquainted and familiarized with it through iTunes sessions with John. And through that wonderfully cataloged label I found Dilla. We all appreciate good music and the dedication involved. Attached is a link (click here) that epitomized dedication and heart through the words of a mother. Dilla passed away on 10th Feb 2006 and his mom is going through an illness as well. If you guys are free, read through this article. Also visit Raise It For Ma Dukes.

First merchandise series (ideas).

So here are the merch ideas I have in mind. Everybody loves merch. The usual stuff, shirts, buttons, stickers & patches. Figured we ought to start out really basic, white on black. Totally metal. Ruh Roh. The stickers would preferably be printed on vinyl instead of paper. Lasts longer and looks much, much nicer. Will keep you guys updated if the designs go into production.

The Mothership.

Dr J had a show with A.U.M earlier in the night and I hope the guys make it back safe.
Dr J was also on the tour circuit with Farizwan and yours truly. Great times in Austin, Houston, Boston, Hong Kong & Manila, Vietnam (both without Dr J though) with I Am David Sparkle. Mr JR Cinco will leave for Bandung mid June to record the new March Twelve release. It has been a productive year for all of us and we are grateful for the great stuff that has been going on in our lives.

So... Hello we are Castles. We're This will be where we'd update stuff, be it band related, random thoughts, etc. Hope to update this a lot so it could be a source of entertainment whenever you guys get bored online. Also up is our new Myspace. Drop by when you're free to check out one of the tracks we recorded. This leads to some serious stuff like:

We've recorded most of our parts, and we're left with vocals. We'd hit the studios again once we've finalised the vocal pieces (it's going to be a bitch on my parts, am already finding it hard to talk after last Friday's practice).
The band hopes to have the release out mid-year (2009), it will probably be self-released, we aren't too sure about that for now. If finances go well, I'd love to have it out on my little bedroom label, El Radio.
While waiting for music to be released we have some merch ideas in mind, which is probably gonna be updated in the next entry. Hope to have some merchandise for sale the next time we play a show, which is around June 13 or something but then again this is also subjected to financial permits.

Will update with merch ideas next time round.
